Walk in Penn’s Woods
Guided nature walk through historic Penn's Woods with the Heinz History Center.
Meadowcroft invites families to explore Pennsylvania's natural and human history through a guided woodland walk. This educational outing takes you through the forest surrounding the historic site, where you'll learn how indigenous people once lived off the land using native plants and wildlife. The walk connects those early survival practices to how Pennsylvania's forests have developed over centuries and why they remain important to our environment today. Meadowcroft has partnered with the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Penn State, and state conservation organizations to create this immersive experience.
The walk is included with regular admission to Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, so there's no extra fee beyond your ticket. You're welcome to purchase tickets in advance online, or buy them at the admissions desk on the day of your visit, depending on availability. This is a great activity for families who enjoy nature, history, and learning together in an outdoor setting.
