Your family can drop by Pittsburgh Glass Center to try glassmaking without booking ahead. During this event, you'll have about 20 minutes to create either a glass paperweight or a blown glass ornament with guidance from experienced artists on-site. It's a perfect introduction if your family has never worked with glass before—no prior experience needed. Kids ages 5 and up can participate with an adult present, and the whole activity moves at a comfortable pace with plenty of hands-on help from instructors. The cost is $55 per person, and you simply sign up at the Front Desk when you arrive—though keep in mind that only 6 spots open up each hour, so popular times may fill quickly. One thing to remember: your finished piece needs five days to cool down before you can pick it up, though shipping can be arranged for an extra fee. The center also offers other glassmaking activities if your family wants a longer or more involved experience, which can be reserved in advance to guarantee spots.
