Your family can drop by Pittsburgh Glass Center for a quick introduction to glassmaking without needing to sign up ahead of time. In about 20 minutes, participants work with an artist instructor to create either a glass paperweight or a blown glass ornament. The cost is $55 per person. Kids ages 5 and up can participate with an adult present. It's a hands-on way to experience glassmaking with lots of guidance, perfect if your family wants to try something new without committing to a full class. Just walk in and register at the front desk—spots are limited to 6 per hour and can fill up quickly. Keep in mind that finished pieces need time to cool and can be picked up five days later; shipping can be arranged for an additional fee. The glass work happens in a warm environment, but the actual activity is short, so most families find it comfortable. Check the calendar before your visit since some special dates may not offer this walk-in option.
