Drop by Pittsburgh Glass Center for a quick introduction to glassmaking without needing to sign up ahead of time. In about 20 minutes, you'll create either a glass paperweight or a blown glass ornament with guidance from experienced artists. The cost is $55 per person, and children ages 5 and up can participate with an adult. No prior experience needed—this is designed as an accessible first taste of working with glass. Just show up and check in at the Front Desk to claim one of the 6 available spots per hour; seating does fill up quickly. Keep in mind that your finished piece will need time to cool, so you'll pick it up five days after your visit (shipping can be arranged for an extra fee). The glassmaking area can get warm, so wearing light, natural-fabric clothing is recommended. This activity involves some standing, walking, and moving around, and you'll be in the workspace for a short time overall.
