Your family can stop by Pittsburgh Glass Center to try glassmaking without any advance planning required. During the afternoon hours, you'll work with one of their artists to create either a small paperweight or a blown glass ornament in about 20 minutes. The $55 per person cost includes all materials and instruction, so no prior experience is necessary. Kids ages 5 and up can participate alongside an adult. Just arrive and sign up at the Front Desk—no pre-registration needed, though only 6 spots are available each hour and they do fill up. Keep in mind that your finished piece needs five days to cool completely before pickup, and shipping can be arranged for an additional fee. Be sure to check the center's calendar ahead of time, as this walk-in activity isn't offered on all dates throughout the year.
