The Strikebreakers, Jonathan González

Artist Jonathan González presents an immersive performance piece called The Strikebreakers, on view throughout mid-August at Carnegie Museum of Art. This site-based artwork blends choreography, sculpture, text, and movement in a unique way. The performance explores connections between steelwork and dance through ensemble performers, drawing inspiration from the labor histories and archives of the Carrie Furnaces. González uses movement vocabularies—including touch, proximity, and embodied communication—to honor and reexamine the experiences of African-American workers. The performance runs daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and takes place in the museum's Grand Staircase, making it easy to encounter as you explore. Admission is free with your regular museum ticket. This is part of the 59th Carnegie International, a major exhibition celebrating contemporary art.
