Teacher Training: Surviving the Ice Age

This professional development workshop invites teachers to dive into how humans adapted and survived during the Ice Age. The program spans two sessions across different venues. On October 6th, you'll attend a guided tour of the Planet Ice exhibit at the Heinz History Center, where experts discuss the science of glacial periods, ancient animals, and the remarkable ways early humans thrived in extreme conditions. A second session follows on October 10th at Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, where you'll explore one of the world's most important archaeological sites and see firsthand how discoveries there connect to the Ice Age story. Registration is $15 for educators with advance sign-up, and attendance at both sessions is required to earn Act 48 professional credits (an additional $7 fee). This workshop blends STEM with humanities, offering a unique chance to learn how to bring prehistoric history to life in your classroom. If you have questions, contact the History Center directly.
