Session One: Do I Really Need to Sell Myself? The Music Business Demystified Workshop Series at The Roots Cellar
Independent musicians, this one's for you. This workshop kicks off a four-part series designed to help you build a sustainable music career on your own terms. The first session digs into marketing and image building—topics that can feel overwhelming but don't have to. You'll hear from working professionals, including a creative director with major brand experience, a Pittsburgh-based Afro-Indigenous artist and entrepreneur, and a folk musician with 15+ years in the industry. Together, they'll walk you through the philosophy behind building an authentic artist image, concrete strategies for social media and grassroots marketing, and how to stay true to yourself while being strategic about your work.
The evening is structured to give you both knowledge and hands-on support. Expect a panel discussion, time for Q&A, and a practical activity where you'll workshop your own marketing ideas directly with the panelists. Light refreshments are provided, and you're welcome to bring dinner. You can sign up for this session individually or purchase all four workshops as a bundle. The remaining sessions cover budgeting, recording and releasing music, and booking and touring.
