Science Stroll: Foraging in Forests

Join botanist and field biologist Joey Jaros for a guided nature walk at Barking Slopes Conservation Area. During this 90-minute program, you'll explore a roughly 1.5-mile trail while learning to identify edible invasive plants commonly found in local forests. Joey will share the history, ecology, and culinary uses of these plants, plus essential safety and ethical guidelines for foraging. This is an educational walk focused on plant identification—you won't be actively harvesting during the event. Joey brings expertise from advanced degrees and current PhD research on invasive species management, combined with a passion for connecting sustainable practices with cooking. Tickets are $5 per person (ages 3 and up; children 2 and under don't require a ticket). The hike proceeds rain or shine, and advance registration is required—walk-ins are not permitted. Keep in mind that tickets under $25 are non-refundable, though you can arrange substitutions.
