Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light bring their distinctive folk sound to Pittsburgh this fall. This Boston-based trio—featuring Sumner on vocals and guitar, Kat Wallace on fiddle and vocals, and Mike Siegel on upright bass and vocals—creates what they call "Femericana": sharp-edged Americana infused with feminist storytelling and poetic depth. Their music draws from history, myth, and personal experience, delivered through spare, intimate arrangements that shift between eerie and tender. Sumner's songwriting has earned national recognition, including a 2024 Kerrville New Folk competition win, and five of her original songs are now archived at the Library of Congress. This concert works well for families with older kids and teens who appreciate thoughtful, lyric-driven music.
