Halloween Make-It-Now

Make your own glass pumpkin and Halloween crafts at Pittsburgh Glass Center.

Kids and families can skip the pumpkin carving this year and try something more creative: making their own glass pumpkin in whatever color they dream up. The Pittsburgh Glass Center is hosting a drop-in event where visitors can sample several glassmaking techniques with guidance from local artists. Choose from blowing a glass pumpkin, creating a spooky suncatcher through glass fusing, or crafting flameworked candy. Each activity takes roughly 20 minutes to an hour depending on the technique, making it easy to fit in between other weekend plans. Activities range from $30 to $45 per person, with most options suitable for ages 5 and up (flameworking requires age 8+). The Hot Shop can get warm, so lighter clothing in natural materials works best for comfort and safety. The Fusing and Flame Shops maintain climate control. Registration is required to participate. Water is available on-site for staying hydrated. Whether your child is a seasoned crafter or trying glasswork for the first time, this hands-on event offers a memorable way to create a lasting keepsake.
