Fever 1793 Workshop

Students in grades 6 through 9 can dive into Laurie Halse Anderson's novel *Fever 1793* through an engaging three-hour workshop that brings history to life. Participants will explore how the events in the book connect to real life in western Pennsylvania during the 1790s using presentations, hands-on activities, and simulations. You'll encounter primary sources, period clothing, and historical artifacts while learning about the Whiskey Rebellion and what frontier life was actually like during that era. Before attending, students should read the novel—a study guide will be provided to help with preparation. The workshop wraps up with a special meal served in a recreation of the book's Cook's Coffeehouse, featuring vegetable soup, biscuits, apple cake, and cocoa. Each participant receives a study packet about the Whiskey Rebellion and a quill pen as keepsakes. The program is capped at 20 students and costs $25 per child.
