eDNA Mushroom Walk at Audubon Greenway

Explore the hidden world of fungi with experts from the Audubon Greenway, ALT staff, and the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club. This two-hour program focuses on collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) samples from soil to study the fungal communities living beneath our feet—including species that never produce visible mushrooms. After contributing to this hands-on research, you'll have time to search the grounds for mushrooms and slime molds to identify together at the end of the walk. This isn't a traditional guided nature hike, and it runs regardless of weather. Registration is required—walk-ins aren't permitted. Families should know that this event emphasizes scientific observation rather than foraging; mushroom edibility won't be discussed, and no wild mushrooms will be eaten. General admission tickets are $0 for everyone ages 2 and up (children under 2 are free).
