Cannon Firing
Watch a live cannon firing demonstration at Heinz History Center.
Bring the whole family to Fort Pitt Museum to experience a living history demonstration right on the museum's lawn. Twice during the afternoon—at noon and at 2 p.m.—museum staff will fire a replica British 6-pounder cannon, giving visitors an authentic taste of 18th-century artillery. You'll get to see and hear what battlefield conditions sounded like generations ago, all set against the backdrop of Point State Park. Best of all, watching the cannon demonstrations is completely free.
If you'd like to explore the museum's exhibits after the demonstrations, regular admission applies. Keep in mind that cannon firings depend on weather conditions, so check ahead before you visit on particularly stormy days. This is a great outing for kids interested in history and anyone curious about how soldiers lived and fought in early America.
