Blacksmithing: Holiday Ornaments

Blacksmithing: Holiday Ornaments

Create hand-forged holiday ornaments at historic Carrie Blast Furnaces.

Spend an evening learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing while creating a keepsake to display on your tree. This three-hour workshop introduces you to the craft through hands-on experience with traditional metalworking tools. Under the guidance of Rivers of Steel's resident artist and bladesmith, you'll forge and shape steel into an ornament—either a tree or leaf design—that you'll take home at the end of the session. The workshop accommodates just 12 participants, so advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are $90 per person. Come dressed in clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and wear closed-toe shoes with good traction since the historic industrial grounds have uneven surfaces. The workshop space isn't climate controlled, but space heaters run during winter months. Portable bathrooms and hand-washing stations are available on-site. This is a welcoming introduction to metalworking for anyone curious about the craft, regardless of prior experience.
